Boy killed, seven injured in Bagan Datuk lorry crash

A 12-year-old boy died and seven others were injured in a collision between a lorry and a car near Bagan Datuk, with victims including a four-month-old baby.

BAGAN DATUK: A 12-year-old boy was killed and seven others were injured in a collision between a lorry and a car yesterday.

The Perak Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 2.21pm, with a team reaching the scene at Parit 10, Jalan Sungai Sumun, 11 minutes later.

Assistant director of operations Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the crash involved a one-tonne lorry loaded with bananas and a Kia Cerato.

“The team found a 27-year-old man pinned in the driver’s seat of the car, while members of the public managed to pull the others out,” he stated.

The lorry’s occupants, a 35-year-old Pakistani man and a 41-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries.

Five of the six car occupants suffered serious injuries.

They were a 27-year-old man, a 25-year-old woman, a six-year-old girl, a 13-year-old boy, and a four-month-old baby girl.

The 12-year-old boy was confirmed dead at the scene by a Ministry of Health medical officer.

All injured victims were transported to Teluk Intan Hospital for treatment.

The boy’s body was handed over to police, and the rescue operation concluded at 5.18pm.
