Camera traps deployed in Kluang after viral tiger sighting

Authorities install camera traps in Kluang to monitor a tiger’s movement after a viral video, urging public caution and cooperation.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Department of Wildlife and National Parks has installed camera traps at strategic locations in Kampung Rahmat, Sri Lalang, Kluang.

This action follows a viral social media video showing a Malayan tiger near the area.

State Health and Environment Committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said the monitoring is crucial for resident safety and ground assessment.

He personally visited the site with PERHILITAN officers to review the situation.

“Initial monitoring found that PERHILITAN had taken swift action by installing camera traps,” Ling said in a statement.

The traps will monitor the animal’s movements and identify the frequency of its presence.

Ling advised the public against creating unnecessary speculation or panic over the incident.

He stressed that community cooperation is crucial for authorities to manage the situation effectively.

The public is reminded not to approach, chase or provoke the animal if encountered.

“Immediately leave the area and inform PERHILITAN or the nearest authorities,” he urged.

The state government will continue working closely with PERHILITAN to monitor the situation.

Appropriate measures will be taken for community safety and wildlife conservation.

The viral video was one minute and 40 seconds long.
