A Malaysian immigration officer faces 11 counts of abusing her position for bribes related to the Labour Recalibration Programme

KUALA LUMPUR: An immigration officer pleaded not guilty today to 11 charges of abusing her position to obtain bribes.

Noorhaslenda Zainal Abidin, 45, allegedly recommended approval for Labour Recalibration Programme applications involving three companies owned by a relative.

The Grade KP22 officer purportedly committed the offences at the Immigration Department’s Foreign Workers Division in Putrajaya between March and November 2023.

She faces charges under Section 23(1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.

The charges carry a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment and a substantial fine upon conviction.

Sessions Court Judge Rosli Ahmad set December 16 for case mention and granted bail at RM30,000.

The accused must surrender her passport to the court and report monthly to the MACC office.

Deputy public prosecutor Ruzaini Sarif represented the prosecution during the proceedings.
