A 25-year-old unemployed man changes plea to not guilty for stabbing a farmer in Kuantan, facing up to 20 years imprisonment under Section 326
KUANTAN: An unemployed man who previously admitted guilt in a stabbing case changed his plea to not guilty at the Sessions Court here today.
Jabalul Akhir Mat Shafie, 25, entered his new plea after the charge was read again before Judge Azman Mustapha.
He faces accusations of intentionally causing life-threatening injuries to farmer Nik Zuraidi Mohamed, 38, by stabbing him in the abdomen.
The incident occurred at Jalan Bakti, Kampung Sri Damai Batu 7, Jalan Gambang near here at 6.40 pm on October 31.
The charge falls under Section 326 of the Penal Code, carrying a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment plus potential fines or whipping.
The accused had initially pleaded guilty to the same charge on November 6.
The court had scheduled yesterday for case mention and sentencing before today’s plea change.
Judge Azman Mustapha set December 5 for case remention.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Anuarul Hakim Abdul Muen urged the court to refuse bail for the accused.
Defence lawyer Muhamad Saifuldin Ab Rahman confirmed they would not apply for bail, citing safety concerns for his client.
Media reports on November 2 revealed a farmer sustained abdominal injuries after being stabbed by an acquaintance in Kampung Sri Damai. – Bernama
