The late MP Bung Moktar Radin is freed of RM2.8 million bribery charges, but his widow’s trial for abetting the offences will proceed.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Sessions Court has acquitted and discharged the late former Kinabatangan MP Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin of three corruption charges.
The charges involved RM2.8 million in alleged bribes linked to securing approval for FELCRA Berhad to invest RM150 million in Public Mutual unit trust products.
Judge Rosli Ahmad made the ruling after Deputy Public Prosecutor Law Chin How informed the court the prosecution would not proceed following Bung Moktar’s death on 5 December last year.
“According to Section 254 of the Criminal Procedure Code, the prosecution has decided not to continue the case against the first accused (Bung Moktar),” said Rosli.
The court ordered Bung Moktar to be discharged of all charges and for his RM100,000 bail and passport to be returned to his surety.
However, the trial against his widow, Datin Seri Zizie Izette A. Samad, will proceed.
She faces charges of abetting her husband in relation to the same offences.
Law confirmed the Attorney General’s Chambers had rejected her representation to have the charges dropped.
