Male student pleads not guilty to sexual assault of classmate

KUALA SELANGOR: A male student pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate’s Court here today to physically sexually assaulting a female classmate at a Sabak Bernam secondary school two weeks ago.

The 15-year-old Form Three student entered his plea before Magistrate Mohamad Ibrahim Muhammad Ghulam during closed proceedings.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Azamuddin Razak confirmed the teenager faced charges for committing physical sexual assault against his 15-year-old female classmate for sexual purposes.

The alleged incident occurred in a classroom at the Sabak Bernam district school around 9.30 am on October 13.

Prosecutors filed the charge under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

This section allows for fines, compensation, community service orders, or placement in an approved school like Henry Gurney School upon conviction.

Courts may also impose custodial sentences under Section 96(2) of the Child Act 2001.

Muhammad Azamuddin suggested RM6,000 bail considering the seriousness of recent cases involving school students.

Defence counsel Aina Suraya Ahmad Nor Hisham requested reduced bail due to her client needing hospital treatment following a road accident.

The court granted RM2,000 bail with one surety and set December 1 for case mention.

Sabak Bernam District Police Chief Supt Md Yusoff Ahmad had earlier confirmed a male teenager’s arrest on October 16.

Police suspected the teenager of sexually harassing a female teenager at a district school on October 13.

The alleged incident occurred during recess around 9.30 am before the suspect’s arrest that same day. – Bernama
