Senior military officer pleads not guilty to RM5 million CBT charge

A Malaysian Armed Forces major general is charged with criminal breach of trust over RM5 million from the Armed Forces Welfare Fund.

KUALA LUMPUR: A senior Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) officer has been charged with criminal breach of trust involving RM5 million from the Armed Forces Welfare Fund.

Major General Datuk Mohamed Fauzi Kamis, 56, pleaded not guilty to the charge at the Sessions Court here.

The Chief of Staff of the Joint Forces Headquarters entered his plea before Judge Suzana Hussin.

He is accused of dishonestly misappropriating the funds through unauthorised investments in Precious Amber International Berhad.

The alleged offence was committed in his capacity as Assistant Chief of Staff for Personnel Services and chairman of the TKAT Investment Committee.

Prosecutors said the unauthorised investment was made without approval from the fund’s committee.

The offence was allegedly committed at the Ministry of Defence on Jalan Padang Tembak on November 27, 2023.

The charge is framed under Section 409 of the Penal Code, which carries severe penalties.

Upon conviction, the provision mandates imprisonment of between two and 20 years, whipping, and a fine. – Bernama
