Social media influencer and husband plead not guilty to wildlife charges

Social media influencer Nina Grace and her husband deny possessing seven protected reptiles without a licence, facing charges under wildlife conservation laws.

KUALA LUMPUR: Social media influencer Nur Nina Farisha Woo Abdullah, known as Nina Grace, and her husband have pleaded not guilty to five charges of possessing protected wildlife without a licence.

The couple, both 28, entered their pleas at the Sessions Court here today.

They are jointly accused of keeping seven protected reptiles without a valid licence.

The animals include three Green Tree Pythons, a Carpet Python, a reticulated python, an iguana, and a Sulcata tortoise.

All species are listed under the First Schedule of the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010.

The alleged offence took place at a premises in Alam Damai, Cheras, at 4.30 pm on September 20.

They were charged under Section 60(1)(a) of the Act, which carries a maximum penalty of a RM50,000 fine, three years’ imprisonment, or both.

Deputy public prosecutor Mas Izzaty Lokman from the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) proposed bail of RM10,000 each with one surety.

She also requested an additional condition for the accused to report monthly to the nearest Perhilitan office.

The unrepresented couple appealed for lower bail, citing their need to provide for their two young children.

Judge Siti Shakirah Mohtarudin set January 8 for mention of the case.

She allowed bail of RM5,000 for each accused with one surety and imposed the monthly reporting condition.
