75 illegal immigrants detained in Kelantan, seven entered via river

Seven of the 75 illegal immigrants detained in Kelantan admitted entering Malaysia illegally via Sungai Golok on the Malaysia-Thailand border.

KOTA BHARU: Seventy-five illegal immigrants were detained by the Malaysian Immigration Department in an integrated operation across Kelantan yesterday.

Seven of those arrested admitted to entering the country illegally via Sungai Golok on the Malaysia-Thailand border.

Kelantan Immigration director Mohamed Yusoff Khan Mohd Hassan said the seven men, aged between 23 and 50, comprised five Bangladeshi nationals, one Indian national, and one Myanmar national.

According to him, the immigrants stated they were waiting to be transported to the Lembah Sireh Bus Terminal in Kota Bharu.

They were then to be taken to their next destination, believed to be states on the West Coast of the peninsula.

Mohamed Yusoff said they were among 75 foreign nationals, including Indonesians, arrested at construction sites in Pasir Mas and Kota Bharu.

All detainees are being held at the Tanah Merah Immigration Depot for further investigation.

They are being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

They are also being probed under Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963. – Bernama
