AADK officers face disciplinary action over client death

The National Anti-Drug Agency has taken disciplinary action against staff after a client died at Batu Kurau rehabilitation centre in March.

PUTRAJAYA: The Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission has confirmed disciplinary action against National Anti-Drug Agency officers and staff following a client’s death at Batu Kurau Narcotics Addiction Rehabilitation Centre in Perak.

The incident occurred on March 14 at the facility known as PUSPEN. The AADK Integrity Unit carried out the action in line with the agency’s internal procedures.

EAIC’s investigation into the complaint was conducted under subsection 27(4) of the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission Act 2009. The commission has made several recommendations to the AADK head department for systemic improvements.

These include proposed enhancements to the AADK Director-General’s Standing Order covering client admission processes and treatment room management. The improvements aim to strengthen health monitoring and medication administration for rehabilitation centre clients.

EAIC also recommended comprehensive inspections at all PUSPEN facilities to identify operational issues and ensure SOP compliance. The commission emphasised the need for enhanced training through periodic courses for all rehabilitation centre staff.

This training would cover standard operating procedures, guidelines, policies and standing orders related to service and enforcement operations.
