Agriculture Minister Mohamad Sabu says authorities have full jurisdiction over the RM200 million Agrobank online fraud investigation.
SHAH ALAM: The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security will not interfere in the investigation into massive online fraud losses at Bank Pertanian Malaysia Bhd (Agrobank).
Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said the matter falls entirely under the jurisdiction of the Royal Malaysia Police and Bank Negara Malaysia.
“We leave it 100 per cent to them to investigate. I cannot provide further comments,” he told reporters after officiating an awards ceremony here.
His remarks follow media reports confirming Agrobank incurred losses of RM203.8 million from an online fraud case reported last November.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, in a parliamentary reply, said 47 individuals had been arrested in connection with the case.
Three have been charged under the Penal Code for using mule accounts, while the remaining 44 suspects are still under investigation.
Saifuddin added that the case did not involve any customer accounts of the financial institution.
Police are finalising the investigation papers with assistance from CyberSecurity Malaysia and Bank Negara. – Bernama
