Chinese national couple arrested in luxury condo drug lab bust

Police raid a luxury condo, arresting a Chinese couple and seizing ketamine, meth, cocaine and MDMA worth over RM164,000.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have dismantled a drug processing syndicate following a raid on a luxury condominium unit.

Sentul police chief ACP Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari said a Chinese couple, aged 46 and 39, were arrested in the 9 pm operation on Jan 22.

Officers found a clear plastic packet containing 34.90 grammes of ketamine on a table in the living room.

“Further checks in a second room led to the discovery of a drug processing laboratory as well as materials suspected for processing, packaging and storing various types of drugs,” he said at a press conference.

The seized drugs included 1,878.90 grammes of ketamine, 380 grammes of methamphetamine, 62 grammes of cocaine and 7,151 grammes of MDMA powder.

Police also found 10 plastic bottles containing a liquid suspected of being MDMA weighing 37,445 grammes in a wardrobe.

The total value of the seizure is estimated at RM164,496.

Initial investigations indicate the syndicate had been active for about three months.

The suspects had rented the luxury apartment unit specifically for drug processing.

“The male suspect has been in Malaysia since November last year, while his wife has just arrived about a week ago,” Ahmad Sukarno said.

A urine test found the female suspect tested positive for drugs, while her husband tested negative.

Both individuals had valid passports and visit visas and no prior criminal records.

The unemployed couple is currently on remand until Jan 29 for further investigation.

They are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
