KLIA Customs foils drug smuggling attempt, detaining a Chinese tourist with 6.884kg of ketamine worth over RM344,000 hidden in luggage.
KUALA LUMPUR: A Chinese tourist was detained at Kuala Lumpur International Airport for attempting to smuggle in 6.884 kilograms of ketamine worth over RM344,000.
The Royal Malaysian Customs Department foiled the smuggling attempt on October 28 at Terminal 2’s Arrival Hall.
KLIA Customs director Zulkifli Muhammad said the suspect was detained after a luggage scan revealed suspicious contents.
“Inspection found several small transparent plastic packages containing powder suspected to be ketamine,” he stated.
The drugs were wrapped in aluminum foil, covered with cardboard, and hidden inside the cloth lining of the luggage bag.
The suspect and seized items were handed over to the KLIA Enforcement Division for further investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Zulkifli confirmed the suspect has been charged in court.
He urged the public to help combat smuggling crimes involving drugs, cigarettes, liquor, and other prohibited items.
The public was advised not to get involved in such illegal activities. – Bernama
