Drug dealer suspect arrested after swinging machete at police in Batu Caves

A man was arrested after swinging a machete at police officers during a drug operation in Batu Caves, with heroin and meth seized.

KUALA LUMPUR: A man was arrested after acting aggressively by swinging a machete at police officers while trying to escape during an operation on Jalan Ulu Yam, Batu Caves, near here yesterday.

Gombak district police chief ACP Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir said the incident occurred around 4.30 pm when the Gombak district police headquarters’ (IPD) Narcotics Crime Investigation Division was conducting an operation to arrest drug distribution suspects.

“In an attempt to escape, the suspect acted aggressively by swinging a machete towards the police officers before being apprehended.

“Following the inspection, police seized a 57-centimetre sharp weapon, as well as drugs suspected to be heroin weighing 18.9 grammes (g) and methamphetamine weighing 7.4 g,” he said in a statement today.

Noor Ariffin said the investigation was conducted under Section 39B, Section 39A(1), and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, as well as Section 186 of the Penal Code and Section 6(1) of the Corrosive, Explosive and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958.

The suspect is now remanded for four days until May 15 to assist in the investigation,” he said while asking the public who have information related to the case to contact the investigating officer, Inspector S. Prakash at 012-2940827 or the Gombak IPD Operations Room at 03-61262222.

Earlier, a 22-second video went viral on social media showing a man swinging a machete in the area.
