A major fire in Tawau, Sabah, has razed 30 semi-detached houses, with firefighters preventing the blaze from spreading to 300 nearby homes
TAWAU: A fire has destroyed 30 semi-detached houses at Lorong Jade 4 in Kampung Sri Aman, Jalan Apas.
The Tawau Fire and Rescue Station received an emergency call at 11.23 pm yesterday and dispatched 17 personnel to the scene seven kilometres away.
Station chief Jemishin Ujin said the team arrived about 10 minutes after the call was received.
To ensure sufficient water supply, firefighters used transport pumps and a water relay system from their Fire Rescue Tender and a Water Tanker.
The operation was assisted by six personnel each from the Kunak Fire Station and the Kampung Titingan Community Fire Brigade.
Firefighters used several water jets from fire hydrants and drew water from the sea to battle the blaze.
No casualties were reported from the incident.
The fire brigade managed to control the fire and prevent it from spreading to approximately 300 other houses.
The firefighting operation ended at 3.10 am.
The cause of the fire and the total losses incurred are still under investigation. – Bernama
