Malaysian fugitives arrested in Mumbai await extradition to Malaysia

Three Malaysian fugitives, wanted for murder and arson, are held at Mumbai airport after deportation from the UK, awaiting handover to PDRM.

MUMBAI: Three Malaysian fugitives, alleged members of a crime syndicate, are awaiting handover to the Royal Malaysia Police after being arrested at Mumbai’s international airport.

The men were taken into custody on Sunday following an altercation with security personnel at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.

They had been deported from Britain after being refused entry at Manchester airport.

The trio are wanted in Malaysia for crimes including murder and arson, and were targets of a police crackdown dubbed ‘Op Jack Sparrow’ last year.

“They behaved like they had nothing to lose,” an airport source told the Free Press Journal.

“It took multiple officers to restrain them and move them to a secure location.”

Local media reported the men turned violent and confronted Central Industrial Security Force personnel at the airport’s Terminal 2.

A special team of Malaysian elite police is expected to arrive in Mumbai within 48 hours to take custody of the fugitives.
