A public university director in Kedah is remanded for allegedly appointing a relative’s company to supply RM16,000 worth of batik fabric.
SUNGAI PETANI: A director of a public higher education institution (IPTA) in Kedah has been remanded for allegedly abusing her position.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) secured a five-day remand order against the female suspect, who is in her 50s, until January 10.
She is suspected of appointing a family member’s company to supply batik fabric valued at about RM16,000.
The alleged offence is believed to have occurred around August 2024.
The fabric was for the production of batik shirts for the institution’s teaching and non-teaching staff.
The suspect was arrested at about 1 pm yesterday when she appeared to give a statement at the Sungai Petani MACC office.
Kedah MACC director Datuk Nazli Rasyid Sulong confirmed the arrest.
The case is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.
