Police bust two online fraud call centres in Sepang targeting Chinese nationals

Selangor police raided two call centres in Sepang, arresting 24 foreigners in separate online lucky draw and forex investment scams.

SEPANG: Police have dismantled two online fraud syndicates operating from call centres in Sunsuria City, Sepang.

Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the first raid on November 26 targeted a lucky draw scam, resulting in the arrest of 14 foreigners.

A second raid the same day led to the arrest of 10 foreigners involved in a fraudulent forex investment scheme.

“Initial investigations found that both cases were different syndicates targeting Chinese nationals as victims,” Shazeli said at a press conference in Shah Alam.

He stated the suspects are believed to have entered Malaysia via Kuala Lumpur International Airport since June on social and work passes.

Police are verifying the authenticity of their travel documents with the Immigration Department.

In the lucky draw scam, suspects used the ‘QQ (Jin Chan)’ application to lure victims into buying non-existent winning numbers for cash prizes.

The forex scam operators contacted victims through the ‘Tonghuasun’ app before moving transactions to Telegram, promising high returns on fake investments.

Authorities seized RM60,000 worth of items including laptops, mobile phones, and routers from both locations.

All 24 suspects have been remanded for seven days from November 27.

A review found the arrested individuals have no prior criminal records and tested negative for drugs.

The cases are being investigated under Section 420 and Section 120B of the Penal Code for cheating and criminal conspiracy. – Bernama
