Bukit Aman traffic police raid Seberang Jaya illegal racing hotspot, detain 350 motorcyclists and issue over 250 summonses in overnight operation
BUTTERWORTH: Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department conducted a major raid at a known mat rempit hotspot in Seberang Jaya last night.
The operation codenamed “Op Motosikal” began at 11pm and involved collaboration with Penang traffic police.
Deputy Director DCP Mohd Rozi Jidin led the raid targeting illegal motorcycle racers who frequent the area on weekends.
As of 9am today, police had stopped more than 350 motorcyclists for inspection.
Officers issued over 250 summonses for various traffic offences during the operation.
All riders and their motorcycles were taken to Seberang Jaya Police Station for further action.
Police conducted urine screening on the detained individuals as part of the investigation.
Mohd Rozi said the operation aimed to raise awareness among teenagers treating the area as a racing circuit.
“Some riders have accumulated five to seven summonses for offences like riding without licences,” he told reporters.
He expressed alarm that youths as young as 15 were involved in the illegal racing activities.
The deputy director noted some offenders had been arrested multiple times without showing seriousness about the matter.
Continuous enforcement efforts are being carried out to address the growing teenage involvement.
Mohd Rozi emphasized the importance of public awareness in curbing illegal racing activities.
Community cooperation is crucial to protect road user safety from these dangerous practices.
Police have not received information about organizers or syndicates behind the racing activities.
Intelligence efforts continue to monitor any coordinated illegal racing operations.
