Police seek to extend Namewee’s remand in influencer death case

Police will apply to extend Namewee’s remand order tomorrow as investigations continue into the Taiwanese influencer’s hotel death.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police will apply to extend the remand order on local rap singer Wee Meng Chee, better known as Namewee, tomorrow.

Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Sazalee Adam confirmed the application will be submitted after the current remand period expires.

Namewee is a person of interest in investigations into the death of Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yun Hsin, whose body was found in a hotel bathtub on October 22.

The 33-year-old influencer was last seen with Namewee before her death.

The case was initially classified as sudden death but has since been re-investigated as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Hsieh’s full autopsy report and toxicology analysis are still pending to determine the exact cause of death.

Namewee was separately charged at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on October 24 for drug use and possession after testing positive for drugs. – Bernama
