School bus ferrying tourists seized in Cameron Highlands safety crackdown

RTD seizes 16 commercial vehicles, including a school bus illegally transporting tourists, in a major safety operation in Cameron Highlands

CAMERON HIGHLANDS: A school bus illegally ferrying foreign tourists was among 16 commercial vehicles seized in a joint enforcement operation.

The Road Transport Department (RTD) conducted the operation today following public complaints and a week of surveillance.

Senior RTD enforcement director Datuk Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said the bus had been illegally transporting tourists from China and Singapore for three years.

“These offences pose a major safety hazard given Cameron Highlands’ steep terrain, narrow roads and high tourist traffic,” he said at a press conference.

The operation was conducted in collaboration with the Immigration Department at key locations around the highlands.

A total of 48 commercial vehicles were inspected, resulting in 51 notices issued.

Offences included the misuse of Motor Vehicle Licences, the absence of valid licences and insurance, and driving without a licence.

The department also detained 51 individuals, including 16 foreigners, for various driving offences.

“We will take stern action to ensure all vehicles are fully compliant with all road regulations and laws,” Muhammad Kifli added.

The Pahang RTD has been instructed to carry out weekly enforcement operations in Cameron Highlands.

A separate week-long operation targeting vehicles operated by foreign nationals has also begun statewide.

Authorities will take action against drivers, companies, and employers who hire foreign drivers illegally. – Bernama
