Liverpool held to goalless draw by Leeds at Anfield

Liverpool’s top-four hopes stall in a 0-0 draw with Leeds, who extend unbeaten run as Calvert-Lewin sees late goal ruled out for offside.

LIVERPOOL were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Leeds United at Anfield.

The result does little to solidify the Reds’ position in the Premier League’s top four.

Arne Slot’s side are now nine games unbeaten but produced another lacklustre attacking performance.

Leeds comfortably held out to extend their own unbeaten run to six matches.

The visitors even came closest to winning the game late on.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin fired past Alisson Becker 10 minutes from time but was flagged offside.

The point edges Liverpool three points clear of Chelsea and Manchester United in the Champions League race.

Leeds boss Daniel Farke made four changes, leaving the in-form Calvert-Lewin on the bench initially.

Liverpool were without top scorers Mohamed Salah and the injured Alexander Isak.

Their absence was keenly felt as the hosts rarely threatened to break the deadlock.

Hugo Ekitike wasted Liverpool’s best chance, miscuing a header from close range in the first half.

Leeds’ defensive organisation frustrated the Reds throughout the match.

This was in stark contrast to the 3-3 thriller between the sides just over three weeks ago.

Calvert-Lewin’s disallowed effort denied him a goal at Anfield and a seventh consecutive scoring game.

The draw pulls Leeds seven points clear of the Premier League relegation zone. – AFP
