SPM candidate among 195 held in Negeri Sembilan drug bust

A total of 195 individuals, including an SPM candidate, tested positive for drugs in a three-day AADK operation across Negeri Sembilan.

SEREMBAN: A total of 195 individuals, including a Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidate, tested positive for drugs and were detained by the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) through the three-day Ops Perdana that was conducted simultaneously in Seremban, Jempol, Tampin and Port Dickson yesterday.

AADK deputy director-general (Operations) Zainudin Abdullah said the operation, which began on June 29, involved 72 Negri Sembilan AADK personnel.

He said the 17-year-old student was detained together with his brother, in his 20s, after both tested positive for ketum at their house in Seremban following intelligence gathered by the agency, with the student claiming he used ketum to stay awake while studying late at night.

“We also detained a married couple, aged 45 and 44, who tested positive for methamphetamine and ketum.

“They were found with their two children, aged 10 and four, in a house without electricity. The children have been referred to the Social Welfare Department (JKM),” he said.

Zainudin said they also detained a 44-year-old woman in Jempol after she tested positive for syabu, adding that she was at home with her 15-month-old daughter at that time.

He added that investigations found that her husband and eldest child were being detained at the Jempol police headquarters for alleged drug possession under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

In the same operation, they also arrested a Rohingya man, in his 40s, after being found in possession of 2.62 grammes of suspected morphine; detained and handed over four foreign nationals from Indonesia and Myanmar to the police for further action under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952; and nabbed eight men, aged between 19 and 40, at a suspected drug den in Felda Palong 12 and 13 in Jempol.

Zainudin said AADK also tracked down and detained 39 individuals who had failed to appear in court after being released on bail.
