Terengganu JPJ’s CNY enforcement operation issues 468 summonses, focusing on expired licences, no insurance and unlicensed driving among nearly 5,000 vehicles checked
KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu Road Transport Department (JPJ) has issued 468 summonses for various offences since its special Chinese New Year enforcement operation began.
Director Mohd Zamri Samion said the summonses followed checks on 4,963 vehicles across federal, state and highway roads throughout the state.
Expired motor vehicle licences topped the list with 138 cases, followed by no insurance coverage (119) and driving without a competent licence (97).
“We also took enforcement action against 342 vehicles for various offences, including technical violations, during the operation,” he said at the Gemuruh Toll Plaza.
Other prevalent offences included not wearing helmets, running red lights, and non-compliant registration numbers or window tints.
In addition to summonses, the department issued 83 inspection notices and 220 other notices to road users.
This year’s operation focuses on nine offences identified as major contributors to serious accidents.
These include speeding, driving in the emergency lane, using a mobile phone while driving, and not wearing a seat belt or helmet.
A total of 155 members and enforcement officers are on duty for the operation, which runs until Feb 22.
Patrols at selected locations will be conducted for 24 hours on key dates and for 16 hours daily from Feb 16 to 20.
