Public urged to avoid sharing crime videos on social media as it may disrupt investigations and risk victim safety, warns Bukit Aman.

TELUK INTAN: The public has been reminded to act more responsibly before uploading video recordings related to crimes or misconduct on social media, as such actions could affect police investigations and carry legal implications.

Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK) director Noor Hisam Nordin said some individuals are overly eager for attention on social media without understanding the impact on investigations conducted by authorities.

“There are recordings that can help investigations, but there are also those that ultimately disrupt investigations, especially when uploaded without understanding the legal implications and the effects on the parties involved.

“We are also concerned that uploaded videos could threaten the safety of the individuals involved if their identities are identified by certain parties, especially if the case involves criminal activities or dangerous criminals,” he said at a press conference after officiating a town hall discussion in conjunction with the 219th Police Day celebrations at Dataran Menara Condong here today.

Noor Hisam, who is also the Perak police chief, advised the public to channel information or recordings related to misconduct directly to the police to ensure appropriate action can be taken.

Touching on today’s programme, he said it was organised to bring the police and the community closer together, while also serving as a platform for sharing information on security issues and crime prevention.

According to Noor Hisam, public support is crucial in helping maintain the morale and spirit of the police force, as well as fostering awareness of the constraints and challenges faced by security personnel in carrying out their duties.

“The police cannot be everywhere at all times, therefore the community needs to step forward and play a role in assisting the police, especially in the prevention and solving of criminal cases,” he said.
