JOHOR BAHRU: Police have arrested a local woman for allegedly throwing her newborn baby girl from the 10th floor of a flat near here in an incident on May 2.

Johor acting police chief DCP Hoo Chuan Huat said police received a report regarding the discovery of the baby’s body at the flat’s parking area at about 2.40 pm.

He said the 22-year-old suspect was arrested at noon today in the compound of Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA).

“The arrest was made based on evidence against the suspect, who is believed to have thrown the baby, who was still alive, from the 10th floor, causing her death,” he said in a statement.

Hoo said checks found that the suspect has no prior criminal record, adding that several witness statements have been recorded and the investigation paper has been referred to the Johor State Prosecution Director’s office.
