Elderly couple killed in Teluk Intan crash

An elderly couple died after a two-vehicle collision in Teluk Intan, leaving three people trapped in the wreckage.

IPOH: An elderly couple were killed after the car they were travelling in was involved in a two-vehicle collision at Batu 5, Jalan Maharajalela near Teluk Intan this afternoon, which left three people pinned inside the wreckage.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Division assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said in the 2.40 pm incident, the local couple, both aged 70, died at the scene after being trapped inside the Toyota Vios they were travelling in.

He said the crash involved a Proton Persona and a Toyota Vios, with all three victims pinned in the vehicles when rescuers arrived.

“Firefighters used special hydraulic rescue tools and a stretcher to extricate all the victims from the wreckage,” he said in a statement today.

Sabarodzi said another victim, a 63-year-old local man who was driving the Proton Persona, sustained injuries to his hands and legs after being trapped in the driver’s seat.

The injured victim was handed over to the Health Ministry personnel at the for further treatment, while the two deceased victims were handed over to the police for further action.
