Fahmi Fadzil: Digital media growth in Malaysia spurs local and international investments

KUALA LUMPUR: The growth of the digital media industry in the country will spur increased investments in technology and communications infrastructure, both locally and overseas, said Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil (pix).

“The popularity of digital streaming services has been on the rise. Both local and international platforms have a significant presence in the Malaysian market.

“These services contribute to the digital transformation of the media and entertainment industry by offering on-demand content to users,“ he said at the launching of OK Vision, a subscriber-based television service here today.

Popular digital media platforms may include streaming services, news websites, social media platforms, and other online content providers.

OK Vision, a joint venture between Ansat Broadcast Sdn Bhd and Indonesian conglomerate MNC Group, jointly offers a television content distribution service for subscribers in Malaysia.

Fahmi noted that digital media platforms are integral to Malaysia’s economy, contributing to revenue generation, employment, innovation, and global competitiveness. “As the digital ecosystem continues to evolve, the economic impact of digital media is likely to grow, further shaping Malaysia’s position in the global digital economy,“ he said.

He said the joint venture is a testament to the strength of partnerships across borders, fostering an exchange of expertise and creativity.

“The ministry commends both Ansat and MNC Group for their vision and dedication in bringing forth this platform, contributing to the growth of Malaysia’s media industry. The Ministry of Communications is delighted to witness the strategic collaboration between the two companies, reflecting a commitment to advancing the digital media landscape in Malaysia,“ he added.

Also present at the launch were the executive chairman of MNC Group Hary Tanoesoedibjo and Tan Sri Vincent Tan, who is the main shareholder in U-Telemedia Sdn Bhd, the parent company of Ansat Broadcast. –Bernama
