FELDA remediation extension period allows for federal-state talks

The extension of a land notice remediation period until January 2026 provides space for further discussions between Terengganu and the federal government.

KUALA LUMPUR: The extension of a remediation period regarding a land notice issued by the Terengganu state government allows for further discussions with the federal government.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the Cabinet received the latest information on the FELDA issue today.

He noted that FELDA and FGV Holdings Berhad issued a statement following the state government’s own statement on the matter.

“The federal government made a payment of RM61 million last year but there are several matters that are being examined,” Fahmi said.

He added that the Cabinet is following the development of this issue very closely.

FGV resumed plantation operations yesterday following the extension of the remediation period until January 7, 2026.

A joint statement from FELDA and FGV said operations can now continue normally.

The companies stated they are back to focusing on increasing yields and strengthening settler family income.

Terengganu State Secretary Datuk Zulkifli Ali said the state government agreed to extend the remediation period.

This extension suspends a notice previously issued to all FGV Board of Directors.

The state recently issued a notice prohibiting encroachment on FELDA-cultivated land in 10 plantations.

The notice covers an area of about 15,000 hectares.

Terengganu claims the land has been cultivated without payment of premiums, taxes or profit sharing for over 40 years.
