Governance report backlog slashed by 83% through JTK monitoring

The National Governance Committee’s monitoring reduced MACC report backlogs by 83%, resolving hundreds of cases through systematic performance evaluation.

PUTRAJAYA: The National Governance Committee’s regular monitoring has reduced the backlog of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission reports from 2023 and earlier by 83%.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said the backlog decreased from 540 previously lodged cases.

He reported that 163 of 245 reports for 2024, representing 67%, had been successfully resolved.

Additionally, nine of 121 reports for 2025, equivalent to 8%, have been addressed.

“This achievement demonstrates the effectiveness of JTK as a platform for monitoring and resolving governance issues in a focused and efficient manner,” he said in a statement after chairing the JTK meeting.

Shamsul Azri attributed the success to the implementation of the Demerit Performance Evaluation System.

This system makes resolving MACC reports one of the criteria for assessing the performance of ministries, departments and agencies.

He proposed that ministries or agencies failing to implement governance improvements within 12 months receive additional demerits.

This measure aims to ensure swift action on outstanding governance issues.

The Chief Secretary also recommended that the MACC lead a special task force to strengthen control over plastic waste importation.

This initiative would involve multiple ministries and agencies in enhancing regulatory compliance.

Meanwhile, International Anti-Corruption Day will be celebrated on December 5 with the theme “Bersama Perkhidmatan Awam MADANI Memerangi Rasuah: Membentuk Integriti Masa Hadapan”.

This year’s celebration is expected to draw more than 2,000 participants to the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will officiate the event.
