The government remains committed to empowering rural infrastructure development to enhance community well-being, says Works Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi
KAPIT: The government remains committed to empowering rural infrastructure development to enhance community well-being, said Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
He said this when officiating the Dewan Kebiau at the Song Phase II Resettlement Scheme, Kebiau, Song, which was completed on 13 May 2024 at a cost of RM1.92 million.
The project reflects the continuous efforts of the state and Federal governments to provide modern, comfortable and inclusive basic facilities in rural areas.
“Dewan Kebiau is not just a gathering place, but becomes a centre for cultural, social, economic, educational and religious activities, thereby strengthening local community unity,” he said.
Nanta, who is also the Kapit MP, recorded his appreciation to JKR Sarawak, JKR Kapit Division, the Kapit District Council (MDK) and the implementing contractor for the efficient project execution that met specifications and the contract period.
At the same event, he witnessed the handover of equipment for the Inland Fisheries Project under the Community@SCORE RECODA Socioeconomic Programme by the Upper Rajang Development Agency (URDA).
This pioneer project involves nine inland fishery participants from the Song district, each receiving seven types of equipment, including a fibreglass boat and outboard engine, to increase freshwater fish production and household income.
Nanta also informed that several physical development projects are ongoing and will be implemented in the Song and Kapit areas.
These include the Nanga Banjor/Nanga Makut and Nanga Makut/Nanga Engkuah road projects under URDA, and a proposal to build a road and bridge connecting Jalan Nanga Belawai to Jalan Song–Kapit under JKR.
Other projects are the road and bridge projects at Nanga Bangkit and Nanga Nansang Tekalit, along with the Song Waterfront Project and Jungle Produce Market Project.
These are expected to improve interior access, beautify Song town and invigorate the local economy.
He also informed that the Nanga Kabah/SK Beguang Road Project under the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development is being implemented and is expected to be completed by 31 March 2027.
At the event, Nanta presented certificates of appointment to three new community leaders and 43 longhouse chiefs (tuai rumah), as well as certificates of appreciation to three retired community leaders.
He emphasised the role of community leaders and longhouse chiefs as a link between the government and the people, while hoping they carry out their trust with dedication, fairness and transparency.
