Sarawak revises free electric bus timings to Semenggoh Wildlife Centre to ensure tourists arrive on time for orangutan feeding sessions
KUCHING: The schedule for the free electric bus service to the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre has been adjusted to improve the tourist experience.
Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the change ensures punctual arrival for the orangutan feeding times.
The adjustment was made after it was found the previous schedule caused some tourists to arrive late.
“Based on the old schedule, some buses were not fully utilised because tourists arrived after the orangutan feeding time,” he said.
He explained the new schedule is arranged earlier to meet the centre’s activity needs.
The feeding sessions are held twice daily, at around 10 am and between 3 and 4 pm.
Abdul Karim’s comments came during a working visit on an electric bus from the Open Air Market to the wildlife centre.
The visit aimed to assess the effectiveness of the new routes and schedules.
He said the service also aims to ensure optimal use in line with the wildlife centre’s main schedule.
The free electric bus service passes through several major hotels around Kuching.
This facilitates the movement of both tourists and local residents.
The Sarawak government has so far provided four fully electric buses.
These environmentally friendly vehicles align with the state’s commitment to sustainable tourism and reducing carbon emissions.
The service also includes travel from Kuching city to the Sarawak Cultural Village in Santubong.
Visitors can check the travel schedule via the official website or the Kuching Metro application.
