The Skim Sumbangan Asas Rahmah is being expanded to include over 10,000 additional small retailers, broadening access to subsidised essentials in local neighbourhoods.
IPOH: More than 10,000 small retailers have been made eligible for the Skim Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA).
Political Secretary to the Finance Minister, Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, said this expansion integrates local traders with the existing supermarket network.
He stated it broadens public access to essential goods in their own neighbourhoods.
“It provides relief both to consumers and the businesses taking part,” he said after officiating a Back-to-School programme.
The Ministry of Finance announced the major expansion on Jan 5.
It targets 10,000 participating small shops by the end of 2026.
This is a significant increase from the over 3,000 outlets anticipated by the end of 2025.
Separately, school supply vouchers worth RM400 each were distributed to 250 registered low-income families in Perak.
Muhammad Kamil said this demonstrates the government’s commitment to supporting vulnerable families.
He encouraged any overlooked eligible families to come forward.
“Their cases will be reviewed and coordinated at the state and district levels to ensure no one is left out,” he added.
