The RM6.25 billion Ipoh Sentral development will generate 20,000+ jobs and transform the city into a major integrated transport hub over 20 years.
BATU GAJAH: The Ipoh Sentral development project is set to create more than 20,000 job opportunities, acting as a major catalyst for Perak’s economic growth.
Chairman of the Perak Infrastructure, Energy, Water and Transport Committee Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin said the RM6.25 billion high-impact project will transform Ipoh into an integrated transport hub.
“The workforce covers the overall development of Ipoh Sentral, including the collaboration between the Railway Assets Corporation and KTM Bhd which plays a role in making it a regional transport hub like KL Sentral,” he said.
Job opportunities will span various segments including hotels, shopping malls, business complexes and supporting facilities.
Mohammad Nizar spoke after representing the Perak Menteri Besar at the 7th Convocation Ceremony of the Malayan Railway Academy.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced on August 16 that the 27.3-hectare project results from strategic collaboration between Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd and RAC.
The development is expected to become a new iconic landmark in Ipoh and will be fully completed within 20 years.
Mohammad Nizar confirmed the project will be developed in phases, with the first phase focusing on landscape, heritage and community facilities.
The second phase will concentrate on mixed development including housing, offices, commercial spaces and hotels.
Today’s ceremony saw 195 KTMB graduates and 34 industrial academy talent participants receive the Malaysian Skills Diploma and Malaysian Skills Certificate.
They completed studies lasting between 12 and 18 months at the Akademi KTM.
Since its establishment in 2016, the academy has produced more than 3,000 skilled graduates who contribute to the operation and maintenance of Malaysia’s railways. – Bernama
