KULAI: The Johor government plans to incorporate anti-bullying elements into the Johor Student Character Module as part of efforts to strengthen student personality and discipline.
State Education and Information Committee chairman Aznan Tamin confirmed the module will continue despite the Ministry of Education’s plans for national character education.
He stated they are modifying and refining the module to enhance its sustainability with additional components including emotional management and moral values.
Aznan emphasised the importance of developing students who excel not only academically but also possess strong character.
He made these comments after officiating the Digital Literacy Education programme at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sayong Pinang.
The Johor Student Character Module was first introduced in 2017 as an initiative by the Johor Education Department.
It serves as a guide for implementing activities based on ten core characters including patriotism, leadership, and technology.
Aznan highlighted Johor’s advantage in having state religious schools support the module’s implementation.
He noted the combination of Johor Education Department and religious school efforts has significantly helped reduce student misconduct.
The collaboration has effectively shaped students with good moral character according to the committee chairman.
Regarding Sekolah Rintis Bangsa Johor progress, Aznan said the state government maintains four existing pilot schools.
These schools will help evaluate the initiative’s effectiveness before potential expansion to other institutions.
He mentioned they will assess the programme based on the 2025 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia results from the first student cohort.
When questioned about the Johor Budget 2026, Aznan confirmed education remains the state government’s main focus.
He expects several important announcements from Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi on November 13.
Earlier at the event, Aznan presented 24 laptops to Sekolah Kebangsaan Sayong Pinang students through Yayasan Jcorp’s collaboration with Affin Bank.
The contribution involved a total allocation of approximately 143,000 ringgit including laptops for two additional schools.
Twenty units each were provided to Sekolah Kebangsaan Sikijang and Sekolah Kebangsaan Belokok under the same initiative. – Bernama
