JITRA: Police in Kedah have reiterated that they will not compromise with residents who assist smugglers at the country’s borders.
Kedah police chief Datuk Adzly Abu Shah warned that stern action will be taken against those involved in such activities.
He advised residents living near the border to work closely with authorities by providing information about smuggling operations.
“We will not compromise, we will arrest the residents if there is evidence of their involvement in border smuggling activities.”
“So, I want to warn residents living near the border to cooperate with us and abide by the law.”
He assured that the identity of informants would be kept confidential during his speech after an asset forfeiture ceremony.
Sixteen forfeited vehicles were handed over during the ceremony under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1988.
Two cars were given to Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Hosba for educational purposes.
Seven motorcycles each went to SMK Parit Panjang in Baling and Giat MARA Training Centre in Pendang.
These vehicles will serve as practical training materials for technical and mechanical skills.
Police will continue strengthening monitoring at border entry points including Bukit Kayu Hitam and Kota Putra.
Adzly expressed concern about criminals shifting operations to Kedah’s borders due to tightened security elsewhere.
He specifically mentioned demolished illegal jetties in Kelantan and enhanced controls at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
“We do not want Bukit Kayu Hitam and Kota Putra to become alternative smuggling routes.”
Meanwhile, police have not received any reports of theft from flood-evacuated homes in the state.
He asked the public to trust police in maintaining order and to comply with evacuation orders for safety. – Bernama
