Key changes await Malaysians in 2026 from school to salary

KUALA LUMPUR: The year 2026 will introduce significant changes affecting the cost of living, digital security, and law enforcement for Malaysians.

It also marks the commencement of the 13th Malaysia Plan, a five-year blueprint for the nation’s economic and social direction.

The academic calendar for national schools will return to a January start after pandemic disruptions.

For Group A states, the school year runs from January 11 to December 31, while Group B states begin on January 12.

The tourism sector anticipates a major boost from Visit Malaysia Year 2026, themed “Malaysia Truly Asia”.

Budget 2026 allocates over RM700 million for tourism promotion, including RM500 million for the VM2026 campaign.

Civil servants under the Public Service Remuneration System will receive a Phase 2 salary adjustment on January 22.

The increase is 15% for the Implementation and Management groups, and 7% for the Top Management Group.
