Deputy PM Ahmad Zahid Hamidi urges KKDW-owned firms to be competitive and sustainable, translating profits into public benefits.
KUALA NERUS: Companies owned by agencies under the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development must operate as competitive and sustainable entities. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said they must adopt a performance-driven approach that delivers tangible benefits to the people.
He conveyed these points during the 2026 KKDW Retreat held here. Zahid, who is also the Rural and Regional Development Minister, emphasised that transparent and high-integrity governance must underpin company management.
In a competitive corporate environment, every leadership team must be courageous in making strategic decisions. “I am confident that with bold leadership and consistent disciplined execution, KKDW agency-owned companies can become catalysts for a more progressive and sustainable rural economy, insya-Allah,” he said in a Facebook post.
He noted the earlier transition from a cost centre to a profit centre was starting to yield results. Subsidiaries are now reporting higher revenue and stronger profits.
These achievements are only a foundation for further progress according to Zahid. The next priority is to ensure all profits are translated into benefits for the people.
This can be done through optimal asset utilisation and strengthening the rural industry value chain. Leveraging data as a new source of revenue generation is also a key focus.
Today’s retreat continued with a session involving these agency-owned companies. It brought together agency chairpersons, heads, department heads, chief executive officers and management teams.
The session aimed to strengthen the strategic direction of the companies as drivers of the rural economy.
