Maersk’s new 180,000-square-metre distribution centre in Shah Alam strengthens Malaysia’s position as a regional logistics powerhouse.

SHAH ALAM: A.P. Moller – Maersk has launched its largest contract logistics facility in Asia Pacific, significantly expanding Malaysia’s position as a regional distribution hub.

The Maersk Mega Distribution Centre spans approximately 180,000 square metres, increasing the company’s warehouse footprint by over 30% in Malaysia.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the facility is expected to attract investor interest in sectors like aerospace, electronics and retail.

“This logistics sector is very important in driving the country’s economic growth, and the Ministry of Transport certainly welcomes private investment in this industry or sector,” he told reporters after the launching ceremony.

Loke emphasised that the government is working to attract investors to explore potential across all states rather than concentrating development solely in the Klang Valley.

“Our current strategy is to ensure balance throughout the country,” he said, highlighting Penang and Kedah in the north, Johor in the south, and East Coast states benefiting from the ECRL project.

The multi-client facility offers 100,000 pallet positions and handles various commodities including consumer goods, food and beverage items, footwear and apparel.

Strategically located in Shah Alam, the centre provides direct connectivity to major highways and seamless access to industrial zones, Port Klang and Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

The facility is positioned approximately 340 kilometres from the Port of Tanjung Pelepas, Maersk’s key transhipment hub port in Asia. – Bernama
