Malaysia to launch new 10-year national education development plan

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will launch the National Education Development Plan 2026-2035, a comprehensive blueprint for Malaysia’s education ecosystem

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will launch the National Education Development Plan (RPN) 2026-2035 on Monday.

The strategic blueprint, jointly led by the Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of Education, encompasses the entire national education ecosystem from schools to universities.

Its launch at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre reflects the government’s commitment to a quality, inclusive and globally competitive education system.

At the higher education level, the Malaysian Higher Education Plan (RPTM) 2026-2035 will serve as the principal policy document for the next decade.

It was formulated through an extensive process involving 181 local experts and 8,226 stakeholders from academia, industry and the community.

The ministries described the RPTM as a dynamic ‘living document’ that is flexible and responsive to global and technological changes.

It emphasises developing goal-driven, resilient and humanity-centric nation-builders.

The integration of technology and artificial intelligence will be key enablers in curriculum and research to produce future technology creators.

The plan also focuses on inclusive access to expand higher education opportunities and strengthen Malaysia’s role as a regional education hub.

Meanwhile, the Malaysia Education Plan (RPM) 2026-2035, led by the Ministry of Education, will be the primary reference for the country’s school-level education development.

It is driven by seven strategic thrusts and 49 high-impact initiatives focusing on quality, access, student potential and educator transformation.

Other focuses include strengthening infrastructure, fostering stakeholder collaboration and enhancing governance.

“The integrated implementation of the RPTM 2026-2035 and the RPM 2026-2035 under the RPN 2026-2035 reflects the coherence of the country’s comprehensive and phased education policy,” read a joint statement from both ministries.

This ensures continuity in human capital development from school level to higher education.
