Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim meets new giant pandas Chen Xing and Xiao Yue at Zoo Negara, marking a milestone in Malaysia-China wildlife conservation ties.
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was introduced to Malaysia’s new pair of giant pandas, Chen Xing and Xiao Yue, at Zoo Negara today.
The Prime Minister officiated the introduction ceremony at the Giant Panda Conservation Centre (PKGP) and later toured the panda exhibition area.
The panda pair, a male named Chen Xing and a female named Xiao Yue, arrived from China on Nov 18, 2025.
They have now completed their mandatory quarantine period at the facility.
Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup said the pandas are an icon of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China.
He stated the effort strengthens cooperation between the two countries, particularly in wildlife conservation and research.
Arthur announced last Thursday that the PKGP would be opened to the public in the near future.
Also present at the event were Deputy Minister Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, and Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing.
