KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Bar has conveyed its deepest condolences on the passing of former chief justice Tun Abdul Hamid Mohamad.

His tenure at the apex of the Federal Court marked the culmination of a judicial career defined by discipline, clarity of reasoning and firm adherence to constitutional structure.

“His judgments remain studied for their precision and directness, reflecting a judge who believed that the law must be applied with rigour and without fear or favour,” Mohamad Ezri said in a statement.

He said many in the legal community would remember Tun Abdul Hamid for his oft-repeated reminder to simply “buat kerja”.

The phrase carried weight as he believed institutions earned respect through the steady and competent discharge of duty.

“Each must perform their role with integrity. That insistence on professional discipline resonated then and continues to resonate today,” he added.

Abdul Hamid was appointed as a Judicial Commissioner on May 1, 1990.

He became a High Court Judge in 1992, a Court of Appeal Judge on Sept 1, 2000, and a Federal Court Judge on Aug 1, 2003.

He later served as Chief Justice from December 2007 until October 2008.
