Malaysian Media Council to hold inaugural AGM on November 7

Media practitioners urged to support the Malaysian Media Council ahead of its first AGM to strengthen professionalism and integrity.

JOHOR BAHRU: Media practitioners nationwide have been urged to give their full support to the Malaysian Media Council ahead of its inaugural annual general meeting on November 7.
Federation of Malaysian Media Clubs president Mohamad Fauzi Ishak said the council serves as an important platform to empower the national media landscape.
He stated that the council provides guidance on ethics and competency development among media professionals.
“The presence of media practitioners at the AGM is vital, as they will play a role in electing members of the Council Board who will lead and determine the future direction of the MMC,” he said.
He was speaking at the Johor Media Club 2025 AGM officiated by State Education and Information Committee chairman Aznan Tamin.
The event was attended by 85 members from the media community.
Key agendas for the MMC AGM include the election of Council Board members under Section 8(4) of the Malaysian Media Council Act.
Other important matters include setting future AGM procedures and determining membership fees.
The meeting will also cover the adoption of operational policies and discussions on the 2026 budget.
Mohamad Fauzi, who also serves as Johor Media Club president, highlighted the media’s expanded role in the digital era.
He said the media’s role now extends beyond reporting news to include filtering information and shaping public perception.
He added that media professionals also play a crucial role in safeguarding public integrity.
Fourteen new Johor Media Club committee members were elected for the 2025/2026 term during the event.
Mohamad Fauzi Ishak retained his position as club president in the elections. – Bernama
