The National Library of Malaysia now provides over six million reading materials and digital resources to foster an informed and competitive society by 2030.
PUTRAJAYA: The National Library of Malaysia (PNM) is expanding public access to knowledge with a collection exceeding six million items.
This initiative aligns with the government’s goal to cultivate an informed and competitive society by 2030.
National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang stated the effort safeguards the nation’s intellectual heritage while empowering a reading culture. He said it also fosters critical thinking to build a knowledgeable society.
“So far, PNM has recorded a total of 6,027,685 items in its collection,” Aaron said in a statement. This includes approximately 2.5 million materials received under the Deposit of Library Material Act 331.
The minister highlighted that PNM holds a collection of 5,405 manuscripts as part of this national heritage. These form a crucial part of the nation’s recorded intellectual history.
Digital access has also been strengthened through the u-Pustaka platform. The public can freely access 1,014,356 digital items via 18 different databases on the service.
This allows citizens to read a vast array of materials anytime and anywhere. The digital push significantly broadens the reach of the library’s resources.
Aaron added that these efforts reflect the MADANI Government’s commitment to inclusive and equitable knowledge access. The goal is to help build a more informed, united and progressive Malaysian society.
