Cabinet ministers highlight Chinese New Year as a symbol of national unity and multicultural harmony, with open houses and visits strengthening community bonds.

KUALA LUMPUR: The nationwide celebration of Chinese New Year has been highlighted by senior ministers as a vibrant reflection of Malaysia’s enduring spirit of unity and multicultural harmony.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi noted the festive atmosphere at the MCA open house, which was also attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“The traditional dishes, cultural performances, and the camaraderie of friends from diverse backgrounds truly reflect Malaysia’s multicultural identity,” he stated in a Facebook post, emphasising the shared respect and joy of the occasion.

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri described visiting friends on the first day of the new year as a meaningful act of appreciating and maintaining long-standing friendships.

She added that these visits in Sarawak, amidst red decorations and warm smiles, beautifully showcase the unifying power of the state’s diversity.

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said the country’s cultural diversity serves as a source of strength that fosters togetherness, a spirit he encouraged among his ministry staff by distributing 1,000 boxes of mandarin oranges.

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali urged the public to embody the agility of the Fire Horse and a burning spirit to drive efficiency and enthusiasm in national development.

“Most importantly, we must all safeguard and nurture peace, prosperity, and unity,” he added, extending festive wishes to the Chinese community.

Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad framed the festival as a crucial bridge for strengthening community ties and nurturing unity beyond mere celebration.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek expressed her hope that this cherished spirit of togetherness would continue to flourish across the nation.
