National service registration suspended at Pekan camp due to overcapacity

Registration for national service trainees at Camp 505 in Pekan was halted after numbers exceeded the camp’s maximum capacity.

KUALA LUMPUR: Registration for the National Service Training Programme Series 1/2026 at Territorial Army Camp 505 in Pekan was suspended today.

The suspension occurred after the number of arriving trainees exceeded the camp’s maximum capacity.

National Service Training Department (JLKN) director-general Datuk Ya’cob Samiran said the decision was an operational measure, not a rejection.

He apologised for difficulties during the registration process and emphasised the need to ensure training quality and trainee safety.

“We did not expect the number of trainees who showed up today to exceed the capacity set,” he said in a statement.

He explained that overbooking was a common practice based on previous no-show rates.

Attendance for this series, however, was extraordinary and unexpected.

Affected trainees have been asked to return home for the time being.

They are permitted to submit travel claims according to existing guidelines.

Those affected will be given priority for the second intake without undergoing reselection.

The first series of training began today at two Territorial Army Camps.

Training is being held at Regiment 515 in Kuala Lumpur and Regiment 505 in Pekan, Pahang.

This session will end on March 3, with four training sessions scheduled for the year.
