Gohtong Jaya’s new RM68.38 million fire station will cut emergency response from 25 to 10 minutes, serving Genting and surrounding highland areas.
GENTING: The new Fire and Rescue Station in Gohtong Jaya will dramatically reduce emergency response times in the Genting Highlands area upon its completion in November 2027.
Emergency response times are expected to drop from 25 minutes to just 10 minutes once the facility becomes operational.
Ministry of Housing and Local Government secretary-general Datuk Dr M Noor Azman Taib said the current 25-minute response is due to the considerable distance and challenging hilly terrain.
He stated the new station is vital given the rapid development and increasing tourism activities in the highlands.
“Based on fire and rescue risk assessments, at least 20 fire cases are recorded annually in this area, highlighting the urgent need for a new station,” he said after the project agreement signing ceremony.
The RM68.38 million project is a collaboration between the government and Genting Malaysia Berhad.
The government is funding RM39 million, while GenM is contributing RM29.38 million under its corporate social responsibility initiative.
M Noor Azman described this as the first time such a comprehensive approach has been used to boost safety in a highland resort area.
The project is currently in the site preparation stage, with physical construction set to begin after building plan approval.
It is scheduled for completion within 24 months and will also benefit Janda Baik, Bukit Tinggi, and border areas of Selangor.
Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department Director-General Datuk Seri Nor Hisham Mohammad said the new Grade C station will house 27 full-time personnel.
He noted that geographical challenges and a lack of permanent quarters had previously prevented stationing full-time staff in the area.
“With this new facility, we will not only enhance operational readiness but also ensure better welfare and living conditions for our members and their families,” he said.
The construction of permanent quarters considers the social needs of personnel, providing access to nearby amenities. – Bernama
