Italian biathlete Rebecca Passler suspended after testing positive for letrozole in a pre-Games test, missing her home Winter Olympics.

ITALIAN biathlete Rebecca Passler has been provisionally suspended after failing a pre-Olympic doping test.

The 24-year-old tested positive for the banned substance letrozole, a drug used to treat breast cancer.

The Italian anti-doping agency (NADO Italia) confirmed the finding in an out-of-competition test conducted outside the official Games testing window.

Passler currently ranks 33rd in the overall Biathlon World Cup standings.

She is the niece of Johann Passler, who won an Olympic bronze medal at the 1988 Calgary Games.

The suspension rules her out of competing at her home Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina.

She would have been competing in her hometown of Anterselva during the Games.
