Over 12,700 Melaka consumers register for subsidised cooking oil app

12,722 Melaka consumers have registered for the eCOSS subsidised cooking oil system, with 1,608 successfully purchasing through the mobile application.

MELAKA: A total of 12,722 consumers in Melaka have registered for the Cooking Oil Price Stabilisation System (eCOSS) mobile application since its implementation between August and October.

State Entrepreneur Development, Cooperative and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman Allex Seah Shoo Chin said records showed 1,608 users had downloaded the eCOSS app and successfully purchased subsidised cooking oil packets through mobile Rahmah MADANI Sales Programme outlets.

“In September, 5,200 users downloaded the application, and the number increased to 5,914 in October,” he told reporters at a supermarket in Cheng.

Seah said eCOSS usage was first introduced at mobile PJRM locations before expanding to supermarkets, retail shops and other sales outlets across the state.

He noted the application helps streamline purchases of controlled goods and assists authorities in preventing leakage and smuggling.

The eCOSS application has been widely implemented in Melaka though its use remains optional for purchasing subsidised packet cooking oil.

Consumers without smartphones can still purchase cooking oil through manual registration using logbooks provided at participating supermarkets.

Seah reported positive feedback from traders and industry players who welcome the more systematic distribution of subsidised cooking oil.

“Based on feedback from supermarket traders here, before eCOSS, up to 1,000 cartons of subsidised cooking oil were sold daily,” he said.

“With the application implementation, the figure has stabilised to about 300 cartons per day.”

He added that Melaka’s Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry branch has organised 1,114 PJRM programmes across all 28 state constituencies to date.

These programmes offer subsidies of up to 30% for various kitchen essentials and daily necessities. – Bernama
