Sultan of Pahang advises ERC and Ru’RASA home recipients to care for their properties, not sell them, and foster community harmony.
BENTONG: The Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, has advised recipients of homes provided under the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) and Rumah Rakyat Al-Sultan Abdullah (Ru’RASA) programmes to cherish their new residences.
He urged all recipients to foster goodwill and harmony while maintaining cleanliness in their village surroundings.
“I advise you to take good care of these homes, which have been given to you at no cost,” he said during a handover ceremony in Kampung Sungai Perdak.
“I also remind you not to rent or sell them.”
Al-Sultan Abdullah stated that though modest, the homes represented a significant collective effort for which they should be grateful.
The ceremony saw keys presented to 32 families, comprising 28 ERC homes and four Ru’RASA units.
He expressed appreciation to all parties involved in constructing the homes to assist those affected by floods.
A total of 121 ERC homes, including furniture, have been completed across seven districts in Pahang at a total cost of RM12.2 million.
Recipient Chow Loy Kee, 67, said he was overjoyed to receive a home after living in a relative’s container in a durian orchard.
“My house collapsed during the 2021 floods, leaving me with nothing,” he said.
Chow added that the new home has greatly eased his burden after he lost all his belongings, with damages exceeding RM80,000.
Another recipient, M. Kasturi, 48, expressed her gratitude for the new home after her family rented for four years.
“At the time, nothing could be saved as the water rose to the roof very quickly,” she said.
Kasturi said she, her husband, and their three children have been living comfortably in the new home for the past year.
